You have to forgive me for the following, I am an optimist….
Having seen the results of the recent poll over at Cmonyuirons, I realise that BJ and the gang are far from favourites amongst the fans. To be honest, it certainly is easy to see why. In my opinion though it is more ‘the gang’ bit that bothers me rather than BG himself. People like Duxburry et al who seem to be clinging on for dear life. Somehow.
However, as the title of this post suggests, I am a big fan of what BG has brought to the club and I feel he deserves more credit for it.
Inherent Problems
The thing is, BG took over from Terrence Brown which was always going to pose a problem. I don’t want to get into trouble by laying into Brown, but at the end of the day most of the porblems that BG inherited are as a result of Brown’s decisions prior to him selling up. Decisions like accepting a sweetener of Tevez and Mascherano from Kia.
Kind of caused a few problems that one Brown, cheers.
BG has had to deal with that and in my opinion, has done it as well as is possible. It was lies from a certain individual that caused the fracas to rumble on. And on. And on.
OK, so the money that he pumped into the club does seem to have been spent on quite a few crocks, although Upson and Parker are looking like quality signings now. Eggert was over ambitious, yes, but nonetheless was passionate about West Ham United and wanted us to succeed.
Debt
He inherited a club with a lot of debt, yet everything that BG has done has left us with no debt at all. He has bought in players, but sold players too. The money he put into the club was “not a loan”, this from our vice-chariman, Fridgeirsson:
Bjorgolfur put £30million into the club last year, it is not a loan like some owners of clubs.
“It was paid in as equity. It is not affecting the operation of West Ham and there is no debt within West Ham from Hansa or vice-versa
So despite all that has gone on, we are in a position where we have a high quality coaching set up. A continually high quality Academy system. Top class team of scientists and physios at backroom positions and we are not in debt.
He has, with a whole lot problems around him, bought us from a position under Brown where we had seemingly no aspirations (appointment of Rodeder) and a lot of debt, to a place where we can look forward, at least as soon as the Sheffield United situation is out of the way.
On that note, yes £30m will hit us hard, but I can’t help but think that thanks to BG’s forward thinking we may find oursleves in a situation whereby a £30m fine is not going to hit us as hard as it could have been.
Maybe I am being completely wrong and naive to the situation. If that is the case, then I hold my hands up and apologise.
In my opinion, BG has taken the club into a better place and that should be applauded. I don’t believe he personally is responsible for some of the lies and deceit we have unfortunately witnessed in the past year, that has to lay firmly at the feet of someone else who I won’t name, but you know who I mean.
BG has built a platform on which we can work from and that is just what West Ham United needed.
I really hope I am not proved wrong.

As West Ham fans we are always naive

I should think alot of West Ham fans do like BG and for what he tried to do for the club, but even if it was my own brother running the club and he was skint i would ask him to sell too. as for the rest of the board, i couldn’t really give a *hite about them.

lets get it straight - TB raped the club, sucking out every penny he could get and selling off the best set of homegrown players any club has ever been lucky enough to have in one generation Rio, Joe Cole, Carrick, Lampard, Glenn Johnson, defoe etc. BJ has done everything he can to put things right and we should all be grateful because he could have easily run up a load of debt and dragged his capital out again. We all keep screeming for loyalty from the players and board etc….its about time the supporters did the same!

BG has been a straigh up guy. No bullsheep, he has been a straight talker and an honest joe. Unfortunately, he must sell if what we read is true. But with a probable 30 Million pound fine, huge wage bill and oil at $50 a barrel, oil sheaks are not going to come calling; just ask Charlton.
