Curbishley or Zola? [THE POLL]

Apologies for a slight lack of content since my last post, One Dimensional Football Is The Way Forward, which had a great response and stimulated a good discussion. I have been studying this past week for my UEFA B coaching lisence and have unfortunately had to neglect my blogging duties in the name of education.

It has meant however that I have been able to spend a lot of time reading the current situation surrounding Zola and our club. I won’t discuss BG and the gang at this point as I only want this to be a short post however regarding Zola, I am firmly in belief that he is the correct man for the job and, given time, will have us playing the attractive football we have so craved these past couple of years.

On that note, I thought it would be interesting to conduct a poll to see how people feel about Zola and the chnage in style we have seen compared to the reign of Curbishley.

So, considering the results we had under Curbs and the results we have so far had under Zola, would you rather Cubrishley still be our manager, or does Zola have your backing? He certainly has mine.

Here you go:

Considering results, would you rather see West Ham play...

  1. We deserved to win against Everton and were the far superior team until the last ten mins. The players look more like a team and some of the football being played now is spot on. It will take time but we should all persevere at least Zola and Clarke are trying to achieve something new and exiting, Curbs had run out of ideas and could not get the best out of the players. I think Zola is doing well considering he has inherited the squad and hasnt had time to bring his own players in yet. I just hope he can in January if needed!!!COYI!!!!!!!!! 3-1 Sat

  2. no contest. We hit a patch after the first couple of games but came back at Middlesboro and should have won and should have won against Everton. Who knows how Curbs would have done? Against Everton his ‘tactics’ could just as easily have led to us losing.

  3. what is the point? Curbishley had a season and a half for us to judge him, Zola has only had 8 games as a manager in his entire career! What a ridiculous comparison! Things have been bad recently, but that last thing we need are fickle fans with no time what so ever.

  4. P.S. it’s the board that is the problem with the club at the moment, they are proven liars, and cannot be trusted at all.

  5. The question is a bit pointless, we all know what style of football we prefer, Zola obviously has the team playing more attractive footbal, playing with more freedom and with a good passing/attacking style.

The real question is would we prefer Zola’s pretty, but ineffective football that might see us relegated or Curbishley’s less attractive but organised and determined style getting us results and keeping use mid-table.

  6. The reason that I did this is because I know that there are people all over the country who do not think that he is good enough. I personally feel that he has already had such a brilliant impact on our side and that the people who are aying he should be sacked really don’t know what they are talking about.

I’m pleased that this poll has showed to these ‘doubters’ and ’stirrers’ that Zola is a firm favourite amongst the fans and we have every faith in him.

I would be interested to hear the opinion of the people who voted for Curbs though….

  7. every player seems to have improved so it’s a no brainer for me. tactics were poor given we need a result before we look like a candidate for the bottom 3. bowyer and parker looked tired as they haven’t had enough games after injuries, same with collins. i would have liked to have seen mullins come on to intercept any threat to the back 4. i know it sounds like something over sensible curbs would have done but to me it’s common sense. i like seeing west ham play with flare but once we’re ahead, apply the tactics to stay that way when we need a result so badly.

  8. I love Zola’s style and i dont mind if we keep playing like we have been cos it is working even though we havent been winning, it may seem odd but we can really get it to work in our favour. we just need to take chances better and if we do get in front need to get better at playing a more defensive game(Bolton style) to really clog the game up and keep the lead. But i would just love to see us get 2-3 up just to take some pressure off. Seriously i will take 2-1 or 3-1 wins be4 we start looking for clean sheets. We’ll be alrite its still early in the season and u think abt it we win a couple in a row and we are back in the top half and on the cusp of europe places. We havent won for ages and we still arent tht far off. Big game against Portsmouth, let’s turn it on. COYI!!!

  9. Althought I think, that Cubrs deserved much more price for what he achieved, I would allways prefer Zola to him.
I would go for such an extreme, that I would rather got relegated with Zola in charge and with football we’ve been playing recently, than finished midtable with boring boring footie we produced under Curbs.
You may call me mad, but that is how i feel about it.
    Entertainment above results for me.

  12. What you have to realise is Zola is trying to play his style of football with Curbishleys team and it’s not quite clicked into place. When Zola gets some of his own players in January, wether permanently or on loan things will definately pick up. I’m a little concerned at the moment but still think we have a bright future ahead under Zola.

  13. First of all Sam, maintaining your Blog on a daily basis is not essential so there is no need for apologies, I hardly have any time to write posts at cmonyuirons.com anymore because of work, soccer-pages.com have made me a decent offer for the site which may result in me selling up.
As for my choice between Zola and Curbs, well there is no doubt in my mind that Zola is the guy who will bring our club to a standard that all West Ham fans are hoping for, As for Curbs, he did his best but his best was not really good enough, all Zola needs is the same backing that we gave Curbs in his early days.
Good post, keep up the good work.
